Our long-awaited 2nd Annual Oktoberfest took place on October 18, 2025, at Wings Restaurant on King George Blvd and what an incredible evening it was! Nearly 90 tickets were sold, filling the venue to capacity with laughter, music, and good cheer. Thanks to our wonderful volunteer Sarah Bunge, who spearheaded and organized this event, it became one of the highlights of the year for our German school community.
The restaurant was transformed with festive Bavarian décor, a colorful sponsor banner, and cheerful table settings that brought a piece of Germany to Surrey. After the introductory speech of our new President Tilmann Glimm, Principal Axel Rechlin took the microphone as our MC, keeping the atmosphere lively with humor, and a true Oktoberfest spirit.
Guests enjoyed delicious meals, great company, and a series of fun games and competitions:
🏙️ Stadt, Land, Fluss
🧠 Trivia
🎭 Best Costume (adults & kids)
🍬 Guess the gummy count
💪 Stein-holding Contest (adults, teens & kids)
The Stein-Holding Contest brought out the competitive spirit in every age group, with categories for kids, teens, and adults. The overall adult winner, Hanna Sekhon, amazed everyone by outlasting even the strongest men!
This year’s Oktoberfest wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our prestigious sponsors who generously donated amazing prizes:
⚽ Whitecaps
✈️ Abbotsford Air Show
🏀 Vancouver Bandits
🍽️ Jägerhof Restaurant
🎒 Wings
💆 Sabai Thai
🥨 Altmaerker Deli
🛒 Superstore
🍝 Old Spaghetti Factory
All donations went into fabulous gift baskets which were wonderfully decorated by Sarah Bunge.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and talents to make this event such a success. Most of all, we have to thank Sarah Bunge who led the organization of the evening with such professionalism. Further thanks to Sabine Betts, who assembled an incredible volunteer team, Leanne for securing many donations, Yuming and her daughter for the beautiful venue setup, Andrea for the vibrant poster design, Felicity for capturing the evening in photo and video and Anke for editing and sharing it all on social media. Michelle energized the crowd with the costume parade and contest. To all the volunteers, families, and supporters, we couldn’t have done it without you!
From the heartfelt cheers of “Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit” led by our principal to the singing of the Hofbräuhaus song “Eins, Zwei, G’suffa” by the winner of the costume contest, this Oktoberfest truly celebrated what makes our school community so special.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration! 🍻💙🤍
