The end of the school year is traditionally marked by celebrating academic achievements and the much-anticipated Maifest, a vibrant celebration that brings together students, parents, teachers, and board members.
Again this year, the festivities commenced after morning classes, with everyone gathering in the lobby for the official part of the day.
Celebrating Academic Achievements
Before the games and celebrations began, we proudly honoured the hard work and achievements of our students during the formal presentation of the A1, A2 and DSD 2 certificates.
The certificates were presented by Irene Mrázek, German Language Advisor of the ZfA Canada West, together with Natascha Daiminger from the German Consulate General in Vancouver.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch to all certificate recipients. Your hard work truly paid off.
Before the festivities, some classes also handed out reading or grammar certificates. The G1/G2 received their ANTON grammar certificates.
Saying Good-bye
A heartfelt farewell goes to Kindergarten teacher Anett Roland, who has been such an important and beloved part of our school for 6 years. Thank you for your warmth, care and the countless memories you created with your students.
We also said goodbye to Franziska Schurr, who taught our E1/2 class this year and brought great energy and enthusiasm to the classroom.
Principal Axel Rechlin and President Tilmann Glimm presented them with a flower bouquet. We wish them all the best in the future.
Outdoor Fun and Games
Students raced through activity stations including parachute games, skipping rope, limbo, egg races, three-legged races, axe throwing, a scavenger hunt and the always popular soccer wall ⚽🥚🪓
So much energy, teamwork and fun to celebrate the end of another fantastic school year.
A huge thank you to all teachers, volunteers and organizers who made these activities possible.
Fortunately, the weather cooperated this year, and all the activities could take place outdoors.
Volunteers in the focus
A huge thank you to our amazing concession stand ladies who not only helped feed everyone at Maifest, but also show up every Saturday throughout the school year serving pretzels, snacks and smiles during recess 🥨💛
Welcoming 100-year-old Louise!
We had the honour of welcoming our beloved former teacher, Louise Roloff. After decades of teaching, she continued to stay deeply connected to our school, preparing Brotzeit for teacher meetings, helping with crafts and often welcoming everyone with a warm smile at the entrance on Saturday mornings.
Recently, she celebrated her 100th birthday✨ You are a true part of SGLS history, dear Louise! ❤️
Adult Classes have fun, too!
Our wonderful adult classes with Veronika Hoffmann and Minal Chiplunkar wrapped up the school year with smiles and lots of new German skills. Vielen Dank to our amazing teachers and adult learners for being such an important part of the SGLS community ❤️
A Celebration of Culture and Community
Thank you to all Maifest volunteers who prepared and served the hot dog lunch and drinks 🌭🥤
And of course, thank you to our volunteer organizers, volunteer board members and teachers who planned, set up and ran all the games and activity stations that made the day so much fun 🎯⚽🎉
Your time, energy and dedication are what make our SGLS community so special. Danke from the bottom of our hearts ❤️
As the school year comes to a close, we wish all students and their families a relaxing and fun summer. We will see you back on the first day of school for the 2026/27 school year on September 12.
