The Surrey German School hosted its first inaugural Oktoberfest pub night, bringing together a lively community of students, parents, and friends. The event, held at the Bennett Pub in South Surrey, was a sold-out celebration of German culture and tradition.
We kicked off early to accommodate families with children, many of whom showed up in costume, joining the adults dressed in traditional Lederhosen and Dirndl. The atmosphere was alive with excitement as Axel, our principal, welcomed everyone with a warm speech.
A nostalgic touch was added by playing videos of Oktoberfest 2024 on the big screen, while old posters from Oktoberfests dating back to the 1970s adorned the walls. The themed décor and festive spirit made it feel like we had transported ourselves straight to Munich!
Highlights of the night included a popular Oktoberfest-themed photo booth, which captured plenty of memorable moments, and a fun trivia game filled with questions about Oktoberfest history. Lucky winners walked away with German cookbooks, Bavarian beer, pretzels, and even a gift card for Ralf’s Bakery in Bellingham.
The “Best Dressed Contest” was another crowd-pleaser, with participants competing for prizes by showcasing their Oktoberfest attire. Of course, no Oktoberfest is complete without music, dancing, and a bit of singing to round out the evening.
Although the night ended early at 8:30 PM due to the family-friendly schedule, the energy and excitement were undeniable. Plans are already in the works for next year’s Oktoberfest, and we can’t wait to do it all over again!
Danke to everyone who joined us and made this event such a success! Prost!
